7 Best and 4 Worst Syracuse Concerts of Summer 2017 (Opinion)

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse’s summer concert season has ended, and what a whirlwind it’s been.

Dozens of rocking acts came to grace the Syracuse stages at Chevy Court, Lakeview Amphitheater, Clinton Square and other venues across Central New York.

However, only a small handful stood out to music critics as unforgettable experiences. Below, we look back on seven of the best summer shows in Syracuse, along with five shows we’d rather not relive.

Best concerts of summer 2017

1. JJ Grey & Mofro
NYS Blues Fest, July 8

JJ Grey & Mofro wasn’t a major act at Chevy Court or Lakeview, but the NYS Blues Fest headliner brought all the energy of an amphitheater show. Apart from his playful performance as a frontman, JJ Grey kept revealing new layers of talent during his set. First, he sang. Next, he busted out the slide guitar. Then, a furious harmonica solo. Electric guitar, talk box, tambourine, he could do it all. The best Blues Fest finale in recent memory. -Katrina Tulloch
